Where I find my fashion inspiration

I have read Seventeen Magazine and Teen Vogue for YEARS and while I have graduated onto real Vogue I still love to read Seventeen every month when it is released. I remember begging my mom in the check-out line at the grocery store to buy me Seventeen when I was probably ten or eleven years old. Even back then, when I was a little kid, fashion and beauty journalism enthralled me and I ate it up. Although my mom wouldn’t buy me Seventeen or Teen Vogue back then because I was still too young (in her eyes) to read those magazines, I would stand there happily in line at the grocery store reading about how to style “the perfect winter date outfit” or identify “the best foundation for combination skin.” I didn’t know then that I  would have my own fashion and style blog, but the seed was definitely planted.

Aside from scouring the pages of Seventeen and Vogue to get fashion inspiration and learn how to put together the perfect “fall ‘fit”, I get inspiration from social media! And, I don’t feel badly about that. I hope people look at me and get some inspo for their outfits. From celebrity influencers such as Alexis Ren, Kylie Jenner, and Tammy Hembrow, to bloggers including Sassyredlipstick (www.sassyredlipstick.com) and The Styled Seed (https://thestyledseed.com), many social media influencers help provide me with outfit and makeup ideas. So, don’t feel guilty about finding inspiration from other higher profile people. As you develop your own style, its normal to draw ideas from more established style gurus.

I also use the inspiration I find on Instagram from friends and my friends’ friends to help me remix my outfits. Changing up what you already own is, honestly, 95% of what you need to do to style those OOTDs for school (unless you have an unlimited clothing budget, which most of us don’t).  So, if you can spy a great item on a friend to borrow, or spot a new look on another Instagram beauty, it will make remodeling your outfits that much more fun.

And don’t forget the weather as a daily style influencer! I love the challenge of looking cute when it’s raining or putting together a chic ‘fit while being bundled up during a snowstorm. The changing seasons really add some excitement to choosing OOTD’s because the seasons force you to turn over your wardrobe; shorts become pants, mini-skirts become maxis and your color pallets change too. In the fall I live for auburns, oranges and burgundies, while in the spring I am pastels all day long! I get inspiration for my own style from the world and weather around me to my friends and famous people.

All in all, finding inspiration is great because it doesn’t mean that you have to copy an exact outfit. It could be the smallest aspect of a look that catches you eye such as a statement necklace, a scarf, a handbag or shoes! The best is when you don’t think you can pull off a certain look, but seeing your favorite influencer or blogger trying it out gives you the extra boost of confidence to try it out too. I certainly hope I do that for some of you.  🙂

Thanks for reading!
